The most commonly needed documentation is your vehicle's Certificate of Title and current Registration paperwork bearing your name. Additionally, we use a Vehicle Transfer and Reassignment form so there is no confusion with DMV. This all-in-one form includes the Bill of Sale, Odometer Disclosure Statement and Power of Attorney. The Power of Attorney is needed to sign the customer's name in their absence at DMV. This only occurs when there is an error and/or title is improperly marked. It's subjective and based on the DMV clerk at that time. In addition, we like to transfer liability immediately. Therefore, when we purchase a vehicle, we release liability online instantly through the State of California - Notice of Transfer and Release of Liability. This allows our customers a "worry-free" transaction. They may cancel their automobile insurance and assume no responsibility for the sold vehicle from that point on.

It is difficult to sell a vehicle without the Certificate of Title in the State of California, but it depends on the circumstances. For instance, if an individual recently purchased a vehicle and has not transferred title with DMV, buy has a paper trail, such as the Bill of Sale, they could sell the vehicle. Additionally, there may be special circumstances that allow an individual to sell a vehicle even though the Certificate of Title is not in their name. The seller has power of attorney, is an executor of an estate, has a death certificate, etc.
